You are invited to attend

The 9th Annual Southwest Vegetation Management Association Conference

November 1-3, 2006 at the Francisco Grande Resort and Hotel,

26000 West Gila Bend Highway, Casa Grande, Arizona.

This year's theme is:

Invasive Weeds in the Urban Interface: Economic & Environmental Dilemma

Janet Clark, Director of the Center for Invasive Plant Management in Montana, is our keynote speaker.

Lee VanWychen, Science Policy Director for the Weed Science Society of America, will give us an update on invasive plant legislation & other goings-on in DC.

Thursday, there will be concurrent sessions one is more hands-on, practical, nuts & bolts information you can use directly in the field. The other is scientific papers or information you can use in running an invasive plant program, or in learning more in-depth about the ecology of invasive plants.

Friday will be a field trip in the central Arizona area.

You can use this conference to obtain the CEU's you need to keep your Az. Dept of Ag and/or SPCC Herbicide Applicator certifications current. More info on CEU hours will be posted in the next couple of weeks on the SWVMA website (www.swvma.org). See the attached Draft Agenda for more details on papers. There will also be a number of posters and vendor booths. Updates to the agenda will be posted on the SWVMA website.

As an option for our members this year, we are providing at minimal cost to you, a day of training and testing for Arizona Department of Agriculture Herbicide Applicator certification. In one day you can learn the information you will need to pass the test, take the test, and walk away as a qualified applicator. Jeff Schalau, Extension Agent from Yavapai County will be teaching this day-long class at Central Arizona College in Casa Grande on October 31, the day prior to start of the conference. This is a great opportunity to get your certification for AZ Dept of Agriculture Certification! Ask your agency which type of certification you need there are two state agencies that certify pesticide applicators: Structural Pest Control and AZ Dept of Ag. Some agencies require one or the other; some require both. See separate page for details on this course.

We've worked hard to make this a program that people from many perspectives will find exciting. We hope to see you in November!
